The prevailing narrative in the addiction world is that addiction is a disease. People in the substance use treatment and general recovery world fought hard to remove the stigma of addiction by labeling it as a disease. However, addiction is complicated and perhaps not all people who come to me wanting help with their chemical health have a pattern of use that meets the definition of disease.
